Nov. 27, 2006, 4 p.m.What Ford should borrow are some designs from Honda or Toyota if they really want to survive.

Nov. 27, 2006, 7:04 p.m.If Ford went under, it would be devastating to the economy, the spin off would put hundreds of thousands of people out of work.

Nov. 27, 2006, 8:06 p.m.well..with the weaker dollar and low unemployment it might not be a bad thing for ford and gm to go under..we could use the available work force..the unions have killed these companies..now they could reform into different industries with a product the world wants..whatever that might be..but not cars..we lost that battle 30 years ago..life would go on nicely without ford and gm..not for the people with those cush do-nothing jobs-but for the economy in general..

Nov. 27, 2006, 8:57 p.m.Ford should make a product that isn't designed to break down after a year. Look at Toyota and Honda's they last!

Nov. 27, 2006, 10:24 p.m.Another MAIN PROBLEM:
MANAGEMENT HAS MADE SOME BONE-HEAD CHOICES.
They were richly rewarded for their stupidity, yes, stupidity, and guess who got it in the neck?
Management GETS RICH, to the tune of millions of dollars.
The Blue Collar Workers got the shaft and were shown the door.
Guess who will lose or have lost their medical insurance benefits?
The Retired Blue Collar Workers and those who took the early retirement buyouts....Probably the rest of the blue collar workers will lose more benefits such as retirement and medical care benefits.
The workers spent so many years putting the automobiles together without a voice related to design, control, or implementation of a company plan to gain market share. They were at the mercy of management's ineptness.
So sad....

Nov. 27, 2006, 10:28 p.m.Ford's answer to it's problems:
A stupid plan called:
"The Way Forward"
Should have been called:
"This Way Forward to Bankruptcy, and More Money to Management."
What a "PUKE."

Nov. 27, 2006, 11:44 p.m.It's hard to pay the unions rates, insurances, retirement and other benefits when in Japan and many other countries the labor costs are so much lower. Even those foreign companies do little more than assemble cars in this country from parts shipped in.
All U. S. automakers can build good cars. Their engineers and designers are not stupid. Their marketing people have called the shots on what type of cars to build and they were wrong. They aimed at the middle, the mediocre, when they should have tried for excellence. There are Model T's over 70 years old that run as well as when new. Henry Ford wanted the best car at the best price. His descendants lost that vision. Now they have a real wake-up call, we should all pray that they return to that vision of price and quality.

Nov. 28, 2006, 11:14 a.m.Ultimately People in the US are to blame,
We let the japs in here, with Toyota plants in Texas, Nissan plants in Alababma and a list of others.
Ford has some decent products internationally, but at home they have put too many eggs in the large truck and SUV market. To me it is about principles of course, I know I am old fashioned, as Honesty, decency and respect are all but gone in todays ultra hyper "gimme it now" hedonistic society.

Nov. 28, 2006, 11:18 a.m.See, My grandfather got a Purple heart at Iwo Jima and having never forgot that he almost died over there to keep the slant eyes out of America...I DO NOT BUY JAPANESE PRODUCTS. Again, call it what you may, but I support the home team at all costs and I sincerely believe if more self serving bung holes today did the same America would not be in the trouble it is; right now. This is simply a symptom of a much bigger disease. You say corporations are to blame...maybe Bush, hahahaha, or government; sorry it doesn't work without the consumer.
Like I'm always saying, the vast ninety percent doing the crying are in fact the culprits.
Suck it in deep...and then dump the bong water.
