It's pretty tough to gut something that starts out as gutless.
These new standards will come into effect in 2020. Twelve years from now. The taxes on the oil companies were eliminated from the bill. The standard for SUV's is set at 22 mpg. And you can bet that once this bill is passed, there will be all kinds of wiggle room worked into the rules with little amendments here, and modifications there. And then, we must not forget the signing statements which may issue from the pen of the Boosh.
If something is to be done to increase efficiency, I figure we must do it ourselves by insisting on better products and using solar and wind power wherever we can and investing out side the current vested interests.
Power to the people!

Not if it takes twelve years before it takes affect. Tomorrow would be better and next year even better.

"It is a major milestone and the first concrete legislation to address global warming," declared Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
Now that's a cloud of methane gas!
Sure, they want to boast about their gased-down proposals that only amount to a hill of dung.
Considering that we already have the technology to run vehicles on a moliecular modification of water that yeilds no carbon-based waste, the lobbyists will surely back this legislation.
The game of appearing dedicated to consumer interests and guardians of the environment is a joke. What I have to say about Republicans and Democrats who boast about their efforts at addressing the energy crisis and global warming will violate Propeller's Terms of Use.

Diane has become one of the stale ales of the Capitol Hill. There is no fizz, no substance, and obviously no character at all! Even the stein is leaking!
It is time to toss this half empty mug out in '08, if the Californians want do do something right by the country.

"Former CIA chief R. James Woolsey, Jr. drives a Prius because of its low petrol consumption. Woolsey claims that money that pays for imports of petrol help fund terrorism and states hostile to the United States. If you live in a country dependent on imported oil, it's your patriotic duty to do the same. His argument is simple: It's a bad thing for transport to depend on oil when the great majority of that oil lies in volatile parts of the world whose governments are hostile to the West. Moreover, he argues that, by making the Middle East so wealthy, we're indirectly subsidizing terror. For Woolsey, the cash register at your local gas station is a collection box for al-Qaeda. 'We're paying for both sides in this war, and that's not a good long-term strategy,' he says. 'I have a bumper sticker on the back of my Prius that reads, "Bin Laden hates this car."'"
